On JC and Morgan, Dan Wetzel of ESPN, the author of “Death to the BCS” explains that if the Power 4 leagues go to automatic college football playoff bids and then have conference play-in games that the field for the playoff balloons to way more than the 14 or 16 that is being tossed around… in theory.

The Southeastern Conference, Big Ten, Big 12 and ACC all have between 16-18 teams at this point and three of the four leagues are spread nearly all the way across the country with the Big Ten and ACC truly bi-coastal conferences. Most leagues are either at or are moving toward a nine-game conference schedule, so there are issues with schedule imbalance every season, so the standings may not be the best way to determine how the automatic bids are determined.
JC Shurburtt and Mike Morgan are also part of the conversation.
